Fisher fires back at Rondo

- By MARC BERMAN

It now looks clear the Kings’ impending freeagent point guard Rajon Rondo won’t be a Knick next season.

The normally mildmannered Knicks coach Derek Fisher shot back at Rondo, who made comments in Brooklyn on Friday that the triangle isn’t for him when discussing his free agency.

When asked by a reporter before Sunday’s game about Rondo’s remark and whether it concerns him to hear that from an elite player, Fisher said, “That’s your decision on whether or not he’s elite or not. You can’t ask him when he wasn’t very successful playing against it whether or not he wants to play in it. That’s his opinion. That’s fine. He doesn’t play for us. We’re not concerned about his opinion about us at this point.’’

Fisher and Rondo battled in two NBA Finals in which the Lakers won one and the Celtics won one. The Knicks inquired about trading for Rondo last season before he was dealt to Dallas, where he was a disaster. They didn’t make a pitch for him last summer, but his solid season in Sacramento put him back on their freeagent shopping list. Now you can scratch him off it, even though he has a fan in Carmelo Anthony as they both attended Oak Hill Academy.

In Brooklyn, Rondo, who is a poor perimeter shooter, said, “The triangle is not really a good look for me, I don’t think.”

Point guard Emmanuel Mudiay, in his Garden debut, racked up 15 points, nine assists and no turnovers and admitted he was looking forward to this game. Mudiay was heavily considered at No. 4 overall by Phil Jackson.

“I knew they passed on me, but they have a great pick in [Kristaps] Porzingis,” Mudiay said. “He’s going to be a great player. I had a little edge and just wanted to come out here and play a little harder.”

Though he shot just 6of18, Mudiay hit two big jumpers in the fourth quarter and spun past Porzingis for a circuslike reverse layup.

“It is the best arena in the world in my opinion,” Mudiay said. “It is my first time playing here, even in high school. It was definitely a good experience. Playing in New York is always something I liked to do.”
