Melo: ‘What am I doing wrong?

- By MARC BERMAN

BOSTON — Carmelo Anthony said it’s been difficult to “stay sane’’ during another crashandburn Knicks season and admitted it makes him feel even more on edge when he sees his buddies Chris Paul (Clippers), LeBron James (Cavaliers) and Dwyane Wade (Heat) all headed to the playoffs again.

With the Knicks (2538) amid a 316 stretch following Friday’s loss against the Celtics, they are likely to miss the playoffs for a third straight season.

“I don’t think envy is the right word, but I do look at my peers and say, ‘Damn, what am I doing wrong?’ ” Anthony, who made the playoffs the first 10 seasons of his career (eight with the Nuggets), said at Friday’s morning shootaround at TD Garden.

“I should be there. There was one point they were looking at me like that. I made it 10 years straight. Right now it’s a rough patch for me. I’m trying to figure out a way to get out of that.”

That doesn’t necessarily mean he wants to “get out of ” New York, as he on the surface remains committed to Knicks president Phil Jackson. But as his mood deteriorates, it’s important to note that even when Anthony resigned a fiveyear deal in 2014, he said he would remain “patient,’’ but only to a point.

After Tuesday night’s fan incident, in which he appeared to blame James Dolan for the doldrums when he told a heckler to ask for his money back from the owner, all bets are off with his notrade clause. Sources said the Celtics asked Anthony’s representatives near the trade deadline if he would be willing to waive it, but were told no, and talks never ensued with the Knicks. Boston — a rival in his eyes — wouldn’t be his first choice, but joining Paul with the Clippers would seem an attractive destination. Anthony has a house in Los Angeles.

“It’s been trying,’’ Anthony said. “For me to just remain sane and remain positive through the entire situation is definitely challenging from that standpoint. It was a test to me if I could get through this and stay strong through this situation and whole process. It has been challenging.’’

While Anthony admitted he spoke to Dolan on Wednesday about the fan incident, he said there have been no conversations with Jackson since AllStar Weekend. They don’t appear close whatsoever, as Anthony communicates more with general manager Steve Mills.

“We don’t talk on a daily basis,’’ Anthony said of Jackson. “He’s definitely at practice. It wasn’t that big a deal to the people who really knew what was going on.”

After Anthony’s forced apology, he missed the Knicks’ premier charity event — the BowlAThon at Chelsea Piers — due to personal reasons.

“I was with family, something with family,’’ Anthony said Friday.
