Crane-collapse widow hits city with $600M suit
The widow of the math whiz killed in February’s lower Manhattan crane collapse is suing the city for $600 million, The Post has learned.
Rebecca Wichs’ notice of claim, filed with the city Comptroller’s Office, is asking for $550 million to cover what her Harvard-educated, 38-year-old husband would have made over the course of his career.
David Wichs’ sister-in-law called him “the most brilliant person ever,” in an interview shortly after the tragedy.
The widow is also asking for $25 million to cover “conscious pain and suffering” — as he likely knew he would die before the crane hit him and then was alive and in pain before succumbing to his injuries.
Finally, she wants another $25 million for loss of love and companionship.
The Czech immigrant worked at Tower Research Capital and had already amassed $3 million, according to his estate.
Eric Sumberg, a spokesman for city Comptroller Scott Stringer, said his office “has determined that this claim cannot be settled pre-litigation.”
