League mulling Harper punishment
Major League Baseball is reviewing Nationals slugger Bryce Harper’s confrontation Monday with umpire Brian Knight, which included cursing at him, to decide whether Harper should be disciplined. Harper’s manager, Dusty Baker, said Tuesday he thinks the reigning NL MVP “deserves something — a fine or something — to me,” because “probably what he did and said was wrong.” In Washington, Andrew Romine drove in the tiebreaking run on a play that withstood a replay challenge under the new slide rule, Miguel Cabrera tacked on a pinch-hit RBI, and the Tigers overcame Ryan Zimmerman’s two homers to beat the Nationals 5-4, ending a seven-game losing streak. In Chicago, Ben Zobrist went 4 for 4, Addison Russell had three RBIs and the Cubs beat the Padres 8-7 for their eighth straight win. In Boston, Mookie Betts, Hanley Ramirez and Travis Shaw each homered and the Red Sox had a season-high 16 hits in a 13-5 victory over the Athletics. Royals prospect Raul Mondesi was suspended for 50 games following a positive test for Clenbuterol, but negotiated a 30-game reduction from the usual penalty after providing evidence he ingested the drug in an over-the-counter medication.
