City Council’s Latest Stupidity
Kyle Smith’s article “Sacked” epitomizes what happens when a bunch of dumb progressives get out of control (May 8). Personally, all the disposable bags that I use have a second life.
I wonder whether these “civil servants” think about seniors who need multiple bags, so as not to strain themselves with heavy single loads or for double-bagging milk.
What astounds me is that 28 City Council members went along with the bill.
Of course, these council members probably don’t even think of the consequences.
The other issue is the $250 penalty. What if a kindhearted clerk doesn’t charge a senior for multiple bags and one of the “bag police” observes it? Do they deserve to get punished? Bill Isler Glen Oaks
The City Council has adopted a policy of irritating its constituents in order to change behavior. Maybe it’s time to try this new form of governing on our elected officials.
Here’s an idea: For the next several years, vote against any city official running for re-election, no matter what their political affiliation.
Just vote them out of office until the entire city administration is replaced. Augie Trinchese Middle Village
I think New York City should implement the German system.
In Germany, there are no free shopping bags and no plastic bags at all. If you want a paper bag, you pay a nickel. Over there, you see shoppers bringing collapsible shopping carts and wicker baskets to the grocery store.
There are no plastic bags littering the streets. Dick Vale Schenectady
