Residents sue over trial delays

- Kaja Whitehouse

A group of Bronx residents is suing Gov. Cuomo and two judges, charging that the borough’s Criminal Court is so poorly managed that they are being denied the constitutional right to a speedy trial.

The Manhattan federal court suit, filed Tuesday, will seek class-action status for people who have been pushed to the Bronx Criminal Court for misdemeanor offenses, which can range from public theft to vandalism. It alleges that those charged with minor offenses are often forced to wait months for their cases to be heard while their lives are often severely disrupted.
