Gayle’s dig at ‘cheater’ ex

-

GAYLE King, quite understandably, still hasn’t fully gotten over finding her husband in bed with another woman 26 years ago. One doesn’t usually look for celebs to dish major dirt in Vanity Fair’s recurring Proust Questionnaire — in which questions include, “What is your current state of mind?” — but King had something to say. When asked, “Which living person do you most despise,” the “CBS This Morning” co-host shot back, “Despise is a strong word. I’m not a huge fan of the woman who I caught naked with my now ex-husband on June 24, 1990, at 9:16 p.m. — but I don’t remember the details.” King was previously married to Connecticut Assistant Attorney General William Bumpus. She’s said of her ex’s alleged infidelity, on her radio show to guest Will Smith in 2006, “I was married to a cheater . . .I went to marital counseling. I have been divorced since 1993, so I’m all healed and everything. I have worked it out. I’m not bitter. I’m OK. I’m really OK.” Bumpus — who was married to King for 11 years — did not get back to us regarding his ex-wife’s allegations. When we asked King who the other woman was, she cracked via e-mail, “You are funny . . . Me no speeka English.” As for which living person King most admires, she said, less surprisingly, “Oprah Winfrey. She always does the right thing — even when no one is looking.” Let’s hope for Bumpus’ sake he hasn’t bumped into King’s formidable BFF, especially when no one’s looking! King quipped to VF of what she wants in any future mate: “It’s a tie between height and depth. And they have to have a good sense of humor.”
