Clinton is betting on Don woe$ in Atl. City
Hillary Clinton ripped Donald Trump’s failed Atlantic City ventures Wednesday, saying his bankruptcies were a “personal” matter to her because small-business owners were left stranded — and her father was a small businessman.
“Donald Trump doesn’t think going bankrupt is a big deal, but it’s devastating if you’re someone who plays by the rules,” she said at the abandoned Trump Plaza Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ.
She cited her father, textile salesman Hugh Rodham: “This is personal for me.”
Seeking to divert attention from the FBI’s findings that she was “extremely careless” with classified intel, Clinton told supporters it’s really Trump who can’t be trusted.
“What he did for his businesses and his workers is nothing to brag about, in fact, it’s shameful,” Clinton said. “Every single voter in America needs to know about it, so we don’t let him do to our country what he did to his businesses.”
Clinton also ripped New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: “If your governor would start doing his job instead of following Donald Trump around, holding his coat, than maybe we could get New Jersey’s economy running again.”
Trump on Wednesday defended his four uses of Chapter 11 bankruptcy laws as “an effective and commonly used practice.”
“Nobody understands the economy like I do, and no one, especially not Crooked Hillary Clinton will do more for the economy than I will,” he said.
Meanwhile, Clinton offered up a new plan for tuition-free college, adopting one of Bernie Sanders’ key platforms.
Clinton proposed eliminating tuition entirely at public colleges and universities for families earning up to $125,000 — a significant shift from her original plan that lessened loan debt but didn’t erase tuition.
Sanders, who championed tuition-free public college for all, praised Clinton’s plan as a “very bold initiative.”
