Wilkerson trying to get right

- By BRIAN COSTELLO

Jets star Muhammad Wilkerson has not practiced in training camp, but he said he will be ready once the season starts.

Wilkerson is recovering from surgery to repair the broken bone in his right leg he suffered in the season finale last year. He is on the physically unable to perform list and may stay there for most of training camp.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” Wilkerson said. “The leg is getting better each and every day. I’ll be ready for Week 1.”

The Jets signed Wilkerson to a five-year, $86 million deal in July. Jets coach Todd Bowles said he hopes the defensive end can participate in the preseason at some point, but will listen to the doctors.

“I’m going to wait and see what they tell me,” said Bowles. “Obviously, I don’t have any gauge on injuries one way or the other. You’re hopeful that he’s there but if not, if we’ve got to play, we’ve got to play.”

Bowles said it is “safe to say” running back Matt

Forte will not play in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Jaguars. Forte has been dealing with a pulled hamstring suffered before training camp began. He has participated in very limited fashion. He did not practice at all Thursday, receiving treatment for most of the practice inside the Jets’ building.

Forte participated in some drills earlier this week. Bowles said he did not suffer a setback and is not concerned about this injury dragging into the regular season.

“I’m not a doctor,” Bowles said. “I can’t say he’s going to be OK or not OK, but right now he’s not in jeopardy of missing any time. We’ll see as the days go by.” Cornerback Darrelle

Revis participated in the majority of practice Thursday, the most he’s done during training camp.

The 31-year-old made news before practice during an appearance on WFAN when he sounded open to moving to safety in a few years. Revis is usually very sensitive with any questions about his skills declining.

He told Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton that he can still play cornerback “at a high level,” but then said: “There’s probably a conversation in the future regarding me maybe moving my position, maybe to safety or doing some other things.”

After practice, Bowles was not interested in getting into future hypotheticals.

“I see him playing corner right now,” he said. “I don’t see the future right now. I just see the present.”

Bowles gave several veterans the day off. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, WR Brandon Marshall, WR Eric Decker and LB David Harris did not practice. … The Jets signed RB Matthew Tucker and waived RB Terry Williams, who they had signed Wednesday.
