Robles needs emotion relief

- By MIKE PUMA

Hansel Robles could probably use an occasional chill pill.

The Mets reliever has never been shy about confrontation and may have been distracted Wednesday by Mark Teixeira, with whom he was jawing in the seventh inning, under the assumption the Yankees first baseman was trying to steal signs.

Robles surrendered three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning. He didn’t pitch Thursday in the Mets’ 4-1 Subway Series win over the Yankees.

“He’s an emotional kid, there is no doubt about it,” manager Terry Collins said Thursday. “He’s an emotional guy, probably more than anything giving up a run at that particular time, we’re bringing him in and we’re getting back in the game, the momentum is kind of swinging, he’s in trouble, gives up a run, and I think he’s probably mad about it and let his emotions get the best of him.”

Robles, in his postgame comments, said Teixeira needed to be “a man” in that situation. But it’s also clear to Collins the 25-yearold has room to mature.

“I think it’s a growing situation,” Collins said. “He’s just got to learn how to deal with it.”

Brandon Nimmo had a whirlwind trip that ended where it started, in New York.

The rookie outfielder had departed for Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, but within an hour of his flight landing was told to head back to New York as Yoenis Ces

pedes’ replacement on the roster. Nimmo returned to the Las Vegas airport and within an hour was on a flight back. But the Mets had sent Nimmo’s equipment separately, so he was unsure if he would have it.

“I do have some bats here, but we’re going to be piecing together some stuff today,” Nimmo said.

Jose Reyes departed to Port St. Lucie, where he will resume baseball activities. The Mets are hopeful Reyes (oblique) will return to the lineup next week.
