The high cost of cutting back

Some of the expenses racked up by a consulting firm hired by SUNY Downstate Medical Center to help it cut costs are:

$1,419 for a single night’s stay at the Carlyle Hotel $14,193 in weekend expenses at the Brooklyn Marriott $13,629 in inappropri­ate meal expenses, including “$ 3,867 in free” meals $2,039 for a “team dinner” at Midtown’s Docks Oyster Bar that included $397 in drinks, a $49 filet mignon and a $43.50 lobster $537 for a limo driver to wait outside a restaurant for 3 ¹/2 hours.
