More gold for Phelps

- PHELPS

It was deja vu for Michael Phelps on Sunday night.

The 31-year-old swimming juggernaut won his 19th gold medal — and his 23rd Olympic medal overall — in a come-from-behind win for Team USA in the 4x100 freestyle relay.

Caeleb Dressel, a first-time Olympian and the Americans’ leadoff man, had been trailing by two-hundredths of a second behind the French when Phelps dove into the water and did his thing. Phelps wound up finishing with an amazing 47.12 in his leg, giving the US more than a full second lead. At the same time, Katie Ledeky brought home the gold in the women’s 100meter freestyle, destroying her own world record. It was her second medal in as many days, after anchoring the silver-medal-winning womens’ 4x100 team.
