The 25-year-old made history Sunday, becoming the first athlete from Kosovo to win an Olympic medal. She defeated Italy’s Odette Giuffrida in the final of the women’s 52 kg event to add a gold medal to her two world titles and three European crowns she’s won in the last three years. Kosovo became a member of the International Olympic Committee two years ago, and so this was the first Olympics in which athletes could compete under its flag.
