Rose aims to play Tues.

- By MARC BERMAN

WEST POINT — Derrick Rose said this was the best training camp he ever has experienced and sounded like he will play Tuesday in Houston in the Knicks’ preseason opener.

Rose’s $21.5 million civil sex assault trial is slated to begin in Los Angeles on Tuesday, which is also Rose’s 28th birthday. Rose still has to speak to his legal team, but said the plan is to fly to Houston with the Knicks on Monday afternoon. Rose is accused of sexual assault in a 2013 incident involving a former girlfriend, who claims she was gang-raped.

The accuser’s lawyer stated publicly last week she thinks Rose should settle and the Knicks guard acknowledged the possibility as the team broke camp.

“For right now they are allowing to just be with the team,” Rose said. “I haven’t heard anything legal-wise.

“I’m sensitive to the subject and the topic, but in my mind I feel like I didn’t do anything wrong so I can’t waste a lot of time thinking about it. I have a great team handling it. They doing the best to defuse the situation, either to take it to court or whatever it is.”

In an odd choice of words, Rose re- sponded to a query of being concerned about missing camp while at trial by saying: “No, I do penitentiary workouts, bro. I be in my room doing pushups, sit ups. I got it from Lamar Odom. From when I played on my first World Championship team. … So when I’m in my room, it’s stretching and having a little workouts, working on my body, flexibility, reading, and watching a lot of documentaries.’’

Rose wore “pods’’ that track miles a player runs during the practice and he had to be removed on a few occasions because he hit the limit.

“Every time we ask him those questions [about the trial] he says he’s just focused on basketball,’’ coach Jeff Hornacek said. “I would guess deep down there’s some thoughts back there that’s distracting at times, but I didn’t see that playing.’’

Hornacek said the biggest surprise of camp was the play of the second unit.

“The bench guys meshed together,’’ Hornacek said. “They were really moving the ball [and] helping each other out. They played very well this week.”
