Musburger joins gambling network

- By MARK W. SANCHEZ

Brent Musburger is rolling the dice with gambling.

The iconic broadcaster announced last week he is leaving ESPN following his broadcast on Tuesday, but he’s not fading away into retirement. Instead, the 77year-old is exploring his hobby horse: gambling.

Musburger no longer will have to cast a veil over his gambling references, saying a meaningless touchdown isn’t so meaningless for some out there, like a wink and nudge from an inappropriate grandfather. He’s going all-in on a sports gambling network.

“It’s amazing how a new twist in the road comes and you decide, ‘You know, I think I’d like to do that,’” Musburger told SI.com in a story published Monday. “It was as simple as that. As you know, I love the games, the action, the people, the fans, but it seems like the right time to do this.”

“This” is Vegas Stats & In- formation Network, which will be streamed on several platforms including SiriusXM. Musburger — along with boxing analyst Al Bernstein — gives some credibility to the network that will have its official launch Feb. 27.

Musburger scoffs at the notion of predicting winners — “I am no better handicapper than anyone else” — but said his SiriusXM show, “My Guys in the Desert,” will be more about information gathering than guessing.
