Lopez remains upbeat amidst trade rumors

- By BRIAN LEWIS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Brook Lopez knows being the biggest trade chip on a 9-43 Nets team deep in rebuilding mode could mean his leaving Brooklyn.

It seems as if Lopez’s name comes up in trade rumors every February, but despite this being a different situation and a new regime, Lopez said he trusts the Nets would tell him if any deal were imminent. He said that conversation hasn’t happened.

“I’ve talked to [my agent]. But it’s something I’m used to by now. It wouldn’t be comfortable without it,’’ said Lopez, who had 18 of his 20 points in the second half of a 111-107 loss to the Hornets on Tuesday. “I haven’t heard anything. I’m all right. If it were pressing or something was happening, I’d be aware.”

Yahoo Sports reported Monday the Pelicans had spoken with the Nets about Lopez, although that move seems unlikely at this point. Nets general manager Sean Marks isn’t actively shopping Lopez, but said all options are on the table.

“You never know what’s going to happen. Nothing’s for certain,’’ Lopez said. “It’s the one team I’ve played for, the one team I’ve known. I want to see great things happen here and I’d love to be a part of that foundation, that growth.

“I don’t pay attention or read any stuff like that. I have one friend who texts me from time to time and says I’m going here or there, but other than that, I’m completely oblivious and ignorant. … [My friend] is batting zero.”

Spencer Dinwiddie went back into the starting lineup and had seven points and four assists. Coach Kenny Atkinson said Isaiah Whitehead fit better with the younger, up-tempo group off the bench, and the rookie had 11 points, seven assists and just one turnover Tuesday. The two point guards helped hold Kemba Walker to 4-of-20 shooting.

Caris LeVert sat out a second straight game with a sore knee, but both he and Atkinson expect him to be available Wednesday against the Wizards. … Quincy Acy, still rehabbing after a knee injury, didn’t make the trip. … Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had a career-high four blocks. … Chris McCullough was selected to the D-League All-Star game.
