NYPD sarge in tragic ‘suicide’
An NYPD sergeant shot himself in the head Thursday and was found dead by his girlfriend when she returned home to their Bronx apartment, sources said.
Galileo Garcia — who received the Police Commissioner’s Award at his 2010 swearing-in ceremony — used his service weapon to kill himself, sources said.
Garcia’s girlfriend left their apartment at about 11 a.m. and called 911 when she found him dead at 2 p.m., sources said.
Garcia, 30, was promoted to sergeant in September and had been assigned to the Housing Bureau’s Public Service Area 7, which covers apartment projects in the South Bronx.
