Trump’s Dynamite Speech: A True President Emerges
I’m a lifelong Democrat but a strong supporter of President Trump. His speech to Congress was amazing (“Dream Bigly,” March 1).
We saw a strong, confident and proud president who is with us. The Democrats who sat and watched showed how out of touch they really are, and why, if they don’t get on board with Trump and his vision of real hope and change, they will continue to be sitting and watching from the sidelines for the next eight years. On Tuesday, Trump grew in stature and became president of these United States.
If Democrats can’t accept that and make an effort to reach across the aisle, shame on them. Ignatius Giorgio Brooklyn
I was pleased that Trump’s speech before Congress was more presidential in tone than the combative remarks he gave during his first month in office. Trump showed he has the ability to change.
I hope the positive change in tone and style will be followed by other reversals.
Before he ran for president, Trump supported Planned Parenthood, universal health care, a ban on assault weapons and immigration reform that wasn’t mean-spirited. Paul Feiner Greenburgh Trump said everything any American would want to hear. It was very disheartening to note that the left side of the room rarely stood up and applauded. Trump put pride back in being an American.
We are the richest and most powerful country in the world, and we should embrace that fact, not be ashamed of it.
He outlined many things that need to be improved but clearly noted ways to do it with help from Congress.
Tuesday’s speech made Americans proud, our allies hopeful and our enemies nervous. That’s all good. Kenneth P. Lebeck Plainview
