Asks if she cheated
Hunter Biden — who admitted this week that he’s in a relationship with his dead brother’s widow — is demanding that his wife turn over any evidence of having cheated on him during their 24-year marriage.
Kathleen claims in her own divorce filings that Hunter is squandering the family fortune on prostitutes and paramours.
But former Vice President Joe Biden’s surviving son wants Kathleen to provide evidence of any infidelity, “including but not limited to, letters, cards, notes and e-mails between you and any person that you had a romantic or sexual relationship with other than your husband during the marriage,” Hunter’s divorce papers say.
Despite his yearlong relationship with his sister-in-law, Hallie — the widow of his brother, Beau, who died of brain cancer in 2015 — Hunter is still blaming his spouse for the split, claiming in his divorce papers that the only reason the marriage fell apart is that she kicked him out.
The two sides are scrapping over money, custody of their youngest daughter, Maisy, 16, and whether Kathleen will actually have to get a job.
Kathleen is seeking to limit Hunter, 47, to a $5,000-a-month allowance — and she’s demanding that she and their daughters, in turn, receive a $20,000 monthly allowance.
“Ms. Biden is college-educated and, as demonstrated by the substantive volunteer work she performs, she is capable of working, earning an income and contrib- uting to her own support and the support of the parties’ children,” Hunter’s lawyer, Sarah Mancinelli, counters in court papers.
The divorce may well be a protracted battle.
“The anticipated trial may be lengthy because of the legal and factual issues raised,” Kathleen’s lawyer, Rebekah Sullivan, says in court papers.
The divorce is filed in Superior Court in Washington, DC, where the marital home is — and where divorce filings are public.
And the very public nature of the proceedings may well play into the couple’s private negotiations, predicted Michael Stutman, a family-law expert who is not involved in the case.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Kathleen feels she has some real leverage over him because of the public nature of his current love interest,” Stutman said.
“But I think she needs to be really careful,” he added.
“He lost his brother. She lost her husband. There must be some level of pain that the two of them are able to help each other with that for some reason Kathleen is not.”
Meanwhile, on Friday, People reported that before Beau Biden’s death, the two Biden sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Hallie, had been close friends.
“We’ll get our hair done, put our makeup on with all the kids running around,” Kathleen told Washingtonian magazine in January 2013, describing their plans for getting ready for the inaugural balls.
