March to the ‘beat’
Rallying supporters of President Trump were met with violence from counter-demonstrators in Berkeley, Calif., Saturday.
At least 10 people were arrested in the clashes, during which a “March 4 Trump” rally was confronted by members of By Any Means Necessary and other organizations, local reports said.
Social media filled with images of people punching each other and pulling each other’s hair.
An elderly man in a red “Make America Great Again” hat wound up prone on a lawn but still clutching his hat — the apparent victim of a pepperspraying.
Seven people suffered cuts and bruises, Berkeley police said.
None of the injured required hospitalization, but police said they confiscated a dagger, a bat, metal pipes, pieces of lumber and bricks.
Video of the scattered fights shows smoke bombs being thrown at the crowd and at least one man pepper-spraying a brawling group.
The rally took place in a park less than a mile from the University of California, Berkeley campus.
It was the second time in a month that Berkeley witnessed politically motivated violence.
Last month, an appearance by outcast conservative Milo Yiannopoulos at the university was canceled after a protest on campus got violent.
The pro-Trump rally was one of several held across the country.
