Crayola declares ‘dye’-off
Crayola is bidding adieu to a hue. For the first time ever, the crayon-maker will retire a color from its 24count box this Friday.
The big reveal will be made at an event in Times Square — where Crayola will also announce a brand new color to take its place.
Once the color is retired, Crayola will stop producing it for its 24-count and 64count boxes as well as for its other products. The banished shade will only be available in boxes that are already on store shelves.
Though it hasn’t officially retired colors before, Crayola has discontinued and renamed hues.
Crayola introduced the controversial “flesh” color in 1949 but renamed it “pink beige” before finally settling on “peach” — as it’s known today, according to CrayonCollecting.com.
