Congress wants a say
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle hotly debated whether President Trump’s order to attack a Syrian military airfield in retaliation for the country’s chemicalweapons attack was legal.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he supported “both the action and objective” and that the president had acted properly, while House Speaker Paul Ryan called the strike “appropriate and just.”
But others demanded that Trump consult Congress on any further military action as well as on overall US policy on Syria.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (DMass.) condemned the Syrian chemical attacks but said further military action had to be approved by Congress.
