Silver takes pass on Dolan dust-up

- By ZACH BRAZILLER

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the league has no plans to get involved in the latest James Dolan dust-up, in which Dolan called Knicks fan James Hamersky an “a-hole” and got in his face for shouting at him to “sell the team” on Tuesday.

Silver didn’t defend the Knicks owner in this latest off-the-court issue, but didn’t reprimand him, either.

“My response is I think there is enormous attention, in this market in particular, focused on ownership and interactions with ownership,” the NBA commissioner said Friday in midtown Manhattan, in a press conference following a meeting of the Board of Governors. “It’s not something we typically get involved in.”

Silver has stepped in before. He met with Dolan and Charles Oakley in February after the Knicks legend was banned from Madison Square Garden in the wake of Oakley being forcibly removed from the Garden by security at Dolan’s request. Oakley was arrested and taken away in handcuffs. But Silver doesn’t plan to get involved here, despite Dolan getting into it with the 35-yearold Astoria native, demanding to see his tickets and having security follow him down the street after the verbal altercation.

Hamersky said he was contacted by the Nets on Friday about purchasing season tickets, but declined. He has expressed concern about the Garden not allowing him to renew his season tickets. His deadline to renew his 100-level seats is April 11.

In the hopes of eliminating or at least reducing games that NBA stars sit out because of rest, Silver said the league is hoping to extend the regular season by a week next year.
