QUICK HITS

-

How bad are the Padres? Well, catcher Christian Bethancourt made two relief appearances in San Diego’s first four games (yes, that’s right, he’s a catcher). And it isn’t like he was mowing opponents down, as he allowed six earned runs over 1²/₃ innings (32.40 ERA), a home run, six walks and two wild pitches. At least the weather’s nice in San Diego.

Positive Braves news: Matt Kemp has six hits in his first three games, all of which have been extra-base hits (two home runs, four doubles).

Michael Pineda has not won since Aug. 5, going 0-3 with a 4.33 ERA in his past 11 starts. Speaking of born losers, did you know Shia LaBeouf’s latest film “Man Down” earned just $26 in its first week ($7 on opening night) in the UK? What does one have to do with the other? Nothing, it’s just fun to say LaBeouf.
