Fight to keep it PG-13

-

HARVEY Weinstein is getting support from GLAAD (which promotes fair representation of gay people in media) in his fight with the Motion Picture Association of America to win his film “3 Generations” a PG-13 rating. TheThe moviemovie mogul’smog protesting the MPAA’s rulinging that the transgender drama be rated R. The film stars Elle FaFanning as a transgender teen hoping to transition into a boy, and also stars Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon. After Weinstein first protested the rating, the Parents Television Council weighed in, urging the MPAA not to bendben on the R, which was for “language including some sexual references.” Weinstein wants high-sschool kids to be able to see the film, but the PTC issued a statement saying, “The most worn-out page in [Weinstein’s] playbook describes how to whine about an age rating from the MPAA. And with his new film . . . he is back at it once again, suggesting that his film is too important to be rated accurately. Mr. Weinstein must think that if a standard is good, then a double standard is twice as good.”

Weinstein has had numerous wars with the MPAA, and won his case on films including “Bully” and “The King’s Speech.” He’s said of the latest ratings dustup, “I have tremendous respect for the MPAA, but we have a double standard for violence.”

For his appeal, Weinstein’s consulting famed attorney David Boies and, Page Six has exclu- sively learned, his film will get a letter of support this week from GLAAD.

A source told us: “GLAAD is going to write a letter to the MPAA [on Thursday] that supports the film and the protest against the R rating.” A rep for GLAAD did not get back to us. Meanwhile, the film’s scheduled to open May 5 in New York and LA.
