A Staten Island man was convicted Wednesday of mercilessly torturing and then killing his estranged wife’s adorable 2-monthold Chihuahua, Bambi.
Monster Jerry Moore now faces up to four years in prison for throttling the pup and then hurling her against a wall in March of 2016.
The fiend had been abusing the pooch for some weeks before the incident, authorities said.
On Bambi’s final day, Moore, of New Brighton, attacked her while his wife was out of the house. He then called his wife to report that something was wrong with Bambi, Richmond County District Attorney Michael McMahon said.
When the woman returned to her Jersey Street home, she found Bambi crying and splayed out on the floor, unable to move. A vet determined Bambi had sustained traumatic brain injury, and was forced to put her out of her misery two days later.
Moore, 39, also threatened his wife and told her to not speak to police, according to court papers — in continued violation of a full, five-year order of protection against him a court issued in 2013 on her behalf that barred him from contacting her or entering her home.
“Don’t think I got charged for intimidating a witness for nothing, so watch what you’re telling police,” the dog-killer spat at his wife, according to the complaint.
A necropsy later revealed the tiny puppy had sustained severe blunt-force trauma to the head, which caused the traumatic brain injury, authorities said.
Moore was convicted Wednesday of felony aggravated cruelty, overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, second-degree criminal contempt, and intimidating a victim or witness in the third degree following a weeklong bench trial before Judge William E. Garnett.
“This defendant mercilessly abused a defenseless puppy named Bambi over several weeks, causing such severe injuries that a veterinarian was forced to euthanize the twomonth old Chihuahua,” the DA said in a statement following the conviction.
