Collins: Harvey will make next start

- By MIKE PUMA

PHILADELPHIA — Matt Harvey’s left hamstring doesn’t register on the Mets’ list of health concerns.

A day after the right-hander was removed from his start against the Phillies because of tightness in his hamstring, manager Terry Collins said Harvey will take his scheduled turn in the rotation Sunday at Miami.

Harvey was in obvious discomfort after covering first base on a grounder in the sixth inning Tuesday. He later said a cramp was responsible for the soreness.

Harvey was removed after allowing two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings for a second straight solid start to begin the season after returning from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome.

Jose Reyes might be on the bench for a mental break beginning Thursday, according to Collins. Reyes went hitless in four at-bats in Wednesday’s 5-4 win over the Phillies and is 2-for-37 (.054) to begin the season.

Reyes was bumped from leadoff to seventh in the lineup the past two games as Collins tries to get him jumpstarted.

“I don’t want any day off at this point, but [Collins] is the skip, so I have to take it,” said Reyes, whose latest 0-for-4 performance included two strikeouts, giving him 11 in nine games.

“We’re playing good baseball, and this game is not only about hitting, I have to play defense, too,” Reyes said. “I am glad I am playing good defense and hitting is going to come.

“Maybe skipping a game, maybe that is a good thing, to give me a day off, even if I think the other way. I want to be in the lineup, because if I’m going to get out of this slump I have to be playing, no sitting down.”

Juan Lagares went 1for-4 as the DH in a rehab game for Single-A St. Lucie, but Collins is unsure if the outfielder will join the Mets for Thursday’s game in Miami or need another day or two in the minors.
