Shine bows out after 20 years at Fox News
Fox News Channel Co-President Bill Shine resigned on Monday, Twenty-First Century Fox, the cable news operation’s parent, said.
“Bill has played a huge role in building Fox News to its present position as the nation’s biggest and most important cable channel in the history of the industry,” Twenty-First Century Fox Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch said in a statement. “His contribution to our channel and our country will resonate for many years.”
Shine was with FNC since its inception 20plus years ago.
Suzanne Scott, who had been executive vice president of programming at FNC, was promoted to president of programming at the network.
Jay Wallace, executive VP of news, becomes president of Fox News Channel.
“Suzanne and Jay are recognized industry leaders,” Murdoch said. “They have both played a large part in assembling the deepest bench of talented broadcasters and journalists.”
Shine started his FNC career as the producer of “Hannity & Colmes” when the network launched in October 1996.
The show’s ratings grew 200 percent under his direction to challenge CNN’s “Larry King Live.”
Shine shared the co-president title with Jack Abernethy, who remains co-president of Fox News and CEO of Fox Television Stations.
The promotions of Scott and Wallace follow the exit of Roger Ailes amid allegations of sexual harassment. Concerns about management’s dealing with harassment claims resurfaced last month with the exit of FNC host Bill O’Reilly.
