Chiarella dies at 90

-

Alfred B. Chiarella, the father of Dow Jones VP Kenneth Chiarella, died Sunday in Florida. He was 90.

Chiarella was 13 when his family emigrated from Italy and settled on Long Island.

After serving as a pharmacist’s assistant in the Navy during World War II, he returned home to own and operate Park Ave Cleaners in Manhasset for 35 years.

Chiarella was active in civic affairs with the Manhasset Rotary and Chamber of Commerce. He also was an honorary fire commissioner in Glen Cove.

When not at work, home or volunteering, Chiarella could often be found at Shea Stadium on fall Sundays as a diehard Jets fan. He was a longtime Gang Green season-ticket holder and, for a stretch of the 1960s and ’70s, traveled to all road games.

In 1997, he moved to south Florida, where he opened and operated Boca Green’s Cleaners & Tailors in Boca Raton for 10 years, and then Renee Cleaners in Delray Beach for seven years.

Chiarella was surrounded by his family when he passed away. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marilyn, sons Michael, Kenneth and Thomas, and daughters Marian and Melissa.

Kenneth Chiarella is the vice president of operations, labor and distribution for Dow Jones at the Bronx Print Center, where The Post is printed.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 9600 W. Atlantic Ave., in Delray Beach.
