93° IN NY? HOT DAMN!
Record high on way
Sizzling temps could melt away a nearly century-old Big Apple heat record this week, forecasters predicted Tuesday.
Temperatures will soar to a high of up to 93 degrees Thursday — topping the city’s hottestever May 18, in 1936, when New Yorkers basked in 90-degree weather.
“All of a sudden, it will be like flipping a switch and it’s gonna feel like summer,” said AccuWeather senior meteorologist Dave Dombek. “It will feel like late June or July.”
But unlike a real New York City summer, it will be blissfully hot, he said.
“Humidity will be low, so it won’t be like the oppressive tropical steam bath we get here in July,” Dombek added. “It’s just a little taste of summer.”
A wave of high pressure off the Atlantic coast will first hit New York City on Wednesday, pushing temperatures to a sunny high of 88 degrees, meteorologists said.
The mercury will peak on Thursday, which will be mostly sunny with a few clouds. Temperatures will then drop slightly to a high of 89 degrees on Friday and be back to normal by the weekend.
New Yorkers flipped for the forecast, saying they look forward to soaking up some rays.
“Maybe I’ll buy an inflatable pool,” said Daniel Balcerzak, 30, who works in construction.
Krista Butterworth, 28, was daydreaming about channeling her inner beach bum. “I’m so excited,” she gushed. “I’m from Georgia, so I love hot weather.”
