HONORING WITH ART

-

John Singer Sargent’s painting depicting British soldiers wounded in a World War I gas attack is now on display at the New-York Historical Society on Central Park West as part of an exhibit opening Memorial Day weekend. The American artist’s 8- by 12-foot oil on canvas, titled “Gassed,” is on loan from the Imperial War Museum in London. It depicts a line of British soldiers blinded by mustard gas being led to the rear, trudging past similarly wounded comrades on the ground.
