The Media’s Latest ‘Toy’: Claiming Prez Leaked Info
THE ISSUE: A Washington Post story charging President Trump with revealing secrets to the Russians.
The left is going wild over the story that President Trump may have mishandled classified information (“Secrets safe: WH,” May 15).
Didn’t we just go through years of investigations into the careless and negligent ways that Hillary Clinton mishandled classified information? What about Hillary’s illegal server in a bathroom closet and classified information being sent everywhere and anywhere, including to Carlos Danger? How’s that for careless and negligent?
For the Democrats to now question Trump’s handling of classified info after the way they went above and beyond to protect Hillary’s dangerous behavior is just pathetic, comical and reeks of a double standard. John Scott Dumont, NJ
The minute this Washington Post story with “unnamed sources” broke saying that Trump gave away national-security secrets to the Russians, I thought about what President Ronald Reagan said when he was faced with a false scandal: “The press got a new toy today.”
Memo to the media: We, the people, are fed up. Before this anti- Trump campaign gets completely out of hand, I ask the children in the media who hyperventilate over a fake news story if they’ve ever heard of “the boy who cried wolf ”? That’s precisely who they’ve made themselves out to be.
Unless this nonsense stops, if there ever actually is a story worthy of a legitimate scandal, the vast majority of the population will simply shrug it off. Eugene Dunn Medford
I am extremely perturbed by the ridiculous accusation that Trump revealed classified information to the Russians.
The media have a notso-secret agenda to bring this president down.
Perhaps Trump should take a lesson from the previous administration and be ruthless about White House leaks and take an attitude of “never complain, never explain.” Henny Rattner Lawrence
If Trump did boast to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that “I get great intel. I have people brief me on great intel every day,” then we have a dangerous fool in the White House, who surely doesn’t understand the expression “loose lips sink ships.”
Trump’s unfiltered verbiage is mind-boggling. Michael Maurer Long Beach
The Washington Post, perhaps hoping to make the president look bad, may have compromised actual intel by drawing attention to sensitive information.
Blowing this story (which was unequivocally denied by all those who were there) out of proportion does exactly what they are criticizing Trump for. Shameful. Deidre Harvey Valley Stream
