MTA’s Button-Pushing Campaign

-

THE ISSUE: The MTA’s efforts to encourage people to give their seats to pregnant or disabled riders.

Instead of the MTA fighting rudeness with its new “Courtesy Counts” buttons, I’d rather it fight inflation (“Good sit-izenship,” May 15).

These buttons will be as useless as the campaign to have people remove their backpacks while riding. The problem is riders who are clueless and feel entitled. Alfred Bonnabel Manhattan

The MTA is quick to make buttons asking people to give up their seats for pregnant women. But what about people with unseen problems, like diabetics, who have trouble standing and walking, people with breathing problems or someone who has had a stroke? Do we make kids stand?

This latest campaign is just another costly publicrelations move that no one thought about before putting it into effect. James Panzo Brooklyn
