Intermix offices to glide in new home on W. 33rd

- Lois@BetweentheBricks.com

INTERMIX is moving its offices near Macy’s. Parent company Gap Inc. signed an 80,903-squarefoot office lease for the upscale fashion retailer at 111 W. 33rd St., where it will occupy the entire eighth and ninth floors.

The building has a glamorous new lobby designed by Studios Architecture that will soon open at its additional address of 112 W. 34th St.

On this shopping street, Sephora and Foot Locker are open and Target — with an additional entrance on West 33rd Street — is on its way.

Intermix will be moving from nearby 1440 Broadway.

Sources said the Gap executives weren’t sold on the side core building until they toured building owner Empire State Realty Trust’s own 12th-floor offices. These were designed by A+I and Beneville Studios, the same team that did the iHeartRadio offices.

Eric Deutsch and Jared Freede of CBRE represented Gap. Keith Cody represented the ESRT ownership along with Scott

Klau, Erik Harris and Neil Rubin of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank. The asking rent was $62 a square foot.

Veterans and active duty service members undergoing treatment in The Bronx will soon have a place to stay.

The Fisher House Foundation is breaking ground on Thursday on two 16unit residences on the grounds of the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.

“We have to do this right; it’s New York City and it’s where we are,” says Fisher House Foundation Chief Executive Ken Fisher, who grew up in Riverdale. “As Bronx Borough President

Rubén Díaz says, ‘ We are boogie-down Bronxites.’ ”

While Fisher Houses are generally built as low-rise ranches, that style of architecture really didn’t fit in The Bronx. As Fisher was standing on the site with the architect, Carl

Zarrello, he spied some Tudor-style buildings in the distance and asked if they could become the inspiration — and the answer was yes.

Now, the upcoming 14,000-square-foot twostory residences will have an elevator and be entirely ADA compliant. Each suite will have private bedrooms and bathrooms. Families will share the kitchen, laundry facilities, dining rooms and living rooms.

Since its creation in 1990 by the Fisher family, the Fisher House Foundation has provided 7 million nights of free lodging to more than 300,000 military families around the world.

The secretary of Veteran Affairs chooses the locations — and these will be the first ones in New York City and the 79th and 80th Fisher Houses developed, with others in the works.

As almost 375,000 vets and active duty members are in The Bronx hospital’s service region and eligible to receive care, the Fisher Houses will become a lifeline for families as nearby long-term lodging can be an obstacle because of cost.

The city streets turn white tomorrow as 3,700 US and Canadian sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen begin the city’s 29th Fleet Week activities.

On Thursday night, SL Green Realty CEO Marc Holliday and President

Andrew Mathias will be honored at the 2017 Salute to Freedom gala along with Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly.

Holliday and Mathias will each receive the Intrepid Salute Award for their business and philanthropic efforts and support of service members.

Kelly, a four-star general of the US Marine Corps, will receive the Intrepid Freedom award for his 45 years of service.

The Intrepid itself was saved, and its museum was founded through the efforts of the late real estate icon Zachary Fisher and his wife, Elizabeth Fisher.

The parade of 17 ships starts at 8 a.m. Wednesday and includes the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge. The ships travel north to the George Washington Bridge before heading to their berths.

If you hear giant booms, it’s the Kearsarge’s sevengun salute to go off as it travels past Fort Hamilton army base, which will return a 15-gun salute.

The newest ship, USNS Yuma, is a Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport.

Many of the ships will be open to the public and will dock on the West Side near the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, where additional events are scheduled.
