Seven picks to watch this Memorial Day
V IEWERS may be enjoying a day off work on Monday, but TV isn’t taking a Memorial Day vacation. Here’s a look at what to check out when you’ve had your fill of backyard barbecues — from Shakespearean drama to slapstick comedy to a true-crime tale.
“STILL STAR-CROSSED” 10 p.m. on ABC
Prolific producer Shonda Rhimes takes on The Bard with her latest, a “Romeo and Juliet”-inspired drama that follows the escalating family rivalry between the Montagues and Capulets after the star-crossed lovers’ deaths — and the newly-installed prince who wants to end the bloodshed.
“THE BACHELORETTE” 8 p.m. on ABC
“Bachelorette” Rachel Lindsay gets some help winnowing down her pool of eligible men when Hollywood couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis judge the guys’ performance in a “husband material obstacle course.” The next day, 10 suitors join NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for a day of basketball — and before the episode is over, one of the bachelors will shock Rachel with his betrayal.
“MICHAEL JACKSON: SEARCHING FOR NEVERLAND” 8 p.m. on Lifetime
The King of Pop’s final days are recounted through the eyes of his trusted bodyguards Bill Whitfield (played by “The Walking Dead” s Chad L. Coleman) and Javon Beard in this TV biopic. Michael Jackson tribute artist Navi — making his acting debut — stars as the Man In the Mirror himself.
“POOL KINGS” 9 p.m. on DIY
Summer means pool season, and this new series shows a team of craftsman upgrading regular backyards with resort-style pools and spas — including miniature sandy beaches with real palm trees, huge infinity-edged hot tubs, fountains, fire pits and entertaining areas. Get ready to have serious pool envy.
“WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?” 9 p.m. on The CW
The improv comedy series returns for another season with host Aisha Tyler and cast members Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady and Colin Mochrie. Skateboarding pro Tony Hawk makes a special guest appearance.
“WHO KILLED ANGIE DODGE? KEITH MORRISON INVESTIGATES” 8 p.m. on Investigation Discovery
“Dateline NBC” correspondent Keith Morrison updates his reporting on the case of Angie Dodge, an 18-year-old woman who was murdered in her Idaho Falls, Idaho, home in 2012. His latest two-hour special follows the March release of previous suspect, Chris Tapp, from a lifetime prison sentence due to his false confession to killing Dodge.
“LEAH REMINI: SCIENTOLOGY AND THE AFTERMATH: MERCHANTS OF FEAR” 9 p.m. on A&E
This two-hour follow-up special to Leah Remini’s exposé series sees the “King of Queens” actress and former Scientology leader Mike Rinder further investigate the Church’s relationship with its critics by talking to a number of special guests. Viewers will also get a sneak peak at Season 2, which is currently in production.
