Yoenis still not quite ready to run

Yoenis Cespedes’ restart on his rehab is underway.

The Mets outf ielder participated in hitting drills on Tuesday in Port St. Lucie, Fla., according to manager Terry Collins, after resting the previous three days because of discomfort in his right quadriceps.

But there is no indication when Cespedes — who according to general manager Sandy Alderson has recovered from the strained left hamstring that landed him on the disabled list on April 28 — will resume running the bases.

Cespedes played six innings in a rehab game for Single-A St. Lucie on Friday and later reported discomfort in the quadriceps. Last year he battled discomfort in his right quadriceps for much of the second half before spending two weeks on the DL in August.

The Mets are hopeful they will have Cespedes as the DH for their twogame series that begins in Texas on Tuesday.

Wilmer Flores is expected to start the next two games at third base, putting his sizzling bat in the lineup as starters Asdrubal Cabrera and Jose Reyes are rested.

After a pinch-hit line out in the Mets’ 5-4 win Tuesday, Flores was 24for-62 (. 387) in May. That batting average ranked second in the NL for the month among players with at least 45 plate appearances.

“It goes back that he’s gotten prepared to play in the role he’s in, and that’s not to be an everyday player,” Collins said. “Therefore he spends a ton of time working on things in the batting cage, trying to ref ine his approach against righthanded pitching. He knows he kills left-handers, but in order for him to get more playing time and opportunities he’s got to hit righties, therefore he’s gone back and done what he did a couple of years ago and used the f ield.”

Amed Rosario entered Tuesday with a 16game hitting streak for Triple-A Las Vegas. Rosario, the organization’s top prospect, was hitting . 356 during the streak. Overall he was sixth in the Pacif ic Coast League with a . 354 batting average.
