Blas’ Fishy Backtracking On Terrorist’s ‘Hero’ Award
THE ISSUE: The mayor’s claim that he always objected to Oscar López Rivera as Puerto Rican Day Parade honoree.
Mayor de Blasio‘s excuse for not initially opposing former FALN leader Oscar López Rivera’s honoree designation at the Puerto Rican Day Parade is a joke. (“Pants on Fire,” Editorial, June 6).
De Blasio cannot seem to tell the truth, and it’s making him a laughingstock.
I suspect López Rivera was told to decline the honor to quell the public outrage. His presence at the parade is a slap in the face to all the honorable and decent people celebrating their Puerto Rican heritage. Dori Harasek Staten Island
Our mayor is lying again, this time about his stance on a terrorist being honored at the Puerto Rican Day Parade.
Funny, but before the parade’s numerous sponsors starting dropping out and other Democrats began denouncing López Rivera, de Blasio had no problem with any of it.
But since it’s election season, perhaps the spineless mayor thought twice and realized how many votes his stance could cost him.
What happened to the days when the city had a real leader, like Rudy Giuliani? Christopher Bisignano Staten Island
Whenever I hear the mayor speak, whether about honoring a terrorist, what he is supposedly doing for the environment, the state of the school system, homelessness or a variety of other things that have gotten worse under his “leadership,” I am reminded of the old proverb: “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.”
I sincerely hope that come November, voters will come to their senses and throw this clueless politician out of office. J. Paino Manhattan
De Blasio is in re-election mode. He’ll do and say anything to protect his image as mayor. He’s a fraud. Moreover, he’s a man of compelling mediocrity.
Now he has the temerity to say he was against letting an FALN radical march as honoree in the Puerto Rican Day Parade from the start.
People are not dumb, Mr. Mayor. You have the equivalent of a rap sheet when it comes to radical causes.
I hope people remember this when they go to the polls this year. Phil Serpico Queens
