Titans bring ex-Jet aboard

Eric Decker is heading home.

The former Jets wide receiver agreed to a one-year deal with the Titans on Sunday, the team announced. Decker and his family live near Nashville to be close to the Music City for his wife, Jessie James, who is a country music singer.

Decker landed with the Titans after making a visit to the team’s headquarters last week. It was his only known visit after the Jets cut him officially last Monday night.

The 30-year-old was part of the Jets’ roster purge of aging, expensive veterans. He was told he was going to be released if the Jets could not trade him on June 6, the same day the Jets released veteran linebacker David Harris.

Decker now will team with third-year quarterback Marcus Mariota on a team that appears to be on the rise. Decker can also serve as an example for Corey Davis, the wide receiver from Western Michigan the Titans took with the fifth pick overall this spring.

Decker spent three seasons with the Jets after playing his first four years with the Broncos. He started 31of-33 games with the team and caught 163 passes for 2,183 yards and 19 touchdowns. His best season came in 2015 when he caught 80 passes for 1,027 yards and 12 touchdowns (the fourth highest total in franchise single-season history) in a 10-6 season. His 19 receiving touchdowns as a Jet are tied for 14th in franchise history along with Santana Moss. He missed most of last season after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. He had the shoulder surgically repaired and had hip surgery last fall, but he looked fully healed during Jets OTA practices.

The Jets first preseason game is against the Titans at MetLife Stadium on Aug. 12.
