Ellsbury gets back on field

- By DAN MARTIN

Jacoby Ellsbury returned to game action on Saturday for the first time since suffering a concussion crashing into the center-field wall at Yankee Stadium on May 24.

Ellsbury began a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre, playing center and going 1-for-3 with a double that broke up a no-hitter in the fifth inning. He was scheduled for just five innings Saturday and is slated to be the designated hitter for SWB on Sunday. He then will move to Double-A Trenton, since the Yankees’ Triple-A squad is headed on the road.

It is the next step in what has been a long process to get Ellsbury back from the concussion that has sidelined him for nearly a month.

Ellsbury took batting practice in The Bronx all week and on Wednesday was cleared to play. Shortly after suffering the injury, the center fielder had a setback in Toronto, which delayed his rehab process.

The Yankees’ offense initially didn’t miss a beat in Ellsbury’s absence, as Brett Gardner hit well for much of the month, as did Aaron Hicks. But Gardner has slowed down recently and Hicks — while saying he was “all good” on Saturday — likely still is feeling the effects of the leg injury he suffered in Oakland.

The lone bright spot in Saturday’s 8-1 loss to the Rangers came from a usual source, as Aaron

Judge hit his 26th homer, which leads the majors.

In his past 14 games, the right fielder has eight home runs with 17 RBIs. He has gone deep five times in his past seven games in The Bronx.

The blast was the 30th of Judge’s career in just his 97th game. Just four players have hit more homers in their first 97 games: Mark McGwire (36),

Rudy York (33), Gary Sanchez (32) and Jose Abreu (31). Ryan Braun also hit 30.

Judge also extended his on-base streak to 26 games. It is the longest single-season streak by a Yankee since Derek Jeter reached base in 34 straight to end the 2012 season.

Sanchez got hit on the left elbow during Friday’s win and didn’t play Saturday, but manager Joe Girardi said it was a regular day off since it was a day game after a night game. …

Chase Headley missed a third straight game as he recovers from back spasms, which began Thursday.
