Fun facts fill Mets broadcast

-

CAN’T ACCUSE Mets’ radioman Josh Lewin of being unprepared.

Saturday, with Giants’ reliever George Kontos in, Lewin noted that Kontos and Curtis Granderson are from the Chicago area and are offseason workout buddies.

Next, with Wilmer Flores batting against Kontos, Lewin said Kontos is a huge fan of the TV show “Friends,” and can quote lines from every episode. Lewin added that Flores credits watching “Friends” with helping him learn English.

While none of this is likely to show up on the f inal exam, it was neat info.

Here’s to Brook Lopez and his nine seasons with the Nets. Despite playing for mostly no-chance teams, he always played hard. And the worst thing he did — or at least was caught doing — on or off the court, was catch a few technical fouls. He also left the TV and radio-delivered impression that while at Stanford he did more than play basketball.

Hard to believe that this 3-on-3 basketball gizmo is receiving so much attention. The Knicks, outside of that Jeremy Lin fling, have been playing 2-on-2 since Patrick Ewing was drafted. Newton Jeffers, Western Pa. college buddy and life- long Steelers fan, has dumped his season tickets because so many 1 p.m. starts were being lost to late afternoon and nighttime starts for TV, turning a pleasure into a chore for which he paid too much to perform.

By the way, how will we know if the Jets are “tanking it”?

Finally, our thanks to class acts Dustin Pedroia and special guest Rob Gronkowski for their behavior during a roast of David Ortiz that was so vulgar the live audience grew uneasy and the plan to show its recording on NESN was spiked.
