Inside Leo’s starry charity bash

-

LEO DiCaprio’s star-studded charity event in the South of France cost a staggering $6 million, and talk is that it could move into a palace in Monaco next year, courtesy of his friend Prince Albert.

An insider at Wednesday night’s flashy St-Tropez bash — which featured a “Titanic” reunion among DiCaprio, Kate Winslet and Billy Zane — cost a fortune to stage, and the prince is proposing to host it in one of his Monaco palaces next year.

The insider said, “Leo’s team put up a huge tent on the grounds of a plush vineyard, Domaine Bertaud Belieu, in Gassin, near St-Tropez. Much of the talk was about how much money the event cost to put on, which was said to be $6 million, and that it might move to Monaco next year to save on costs.” Another insider added that production costs are offset by ticket sales, and the auction was the main driver for funds for the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

Auction prizes included three dinners with DiCaprio and Winslet, which sold for more than 10,000 euros ($11,700), plus a chance to host a private dinner at Versailles for 30 diners. Billionaire

Len Blavatnik bought the most expensive piece of art during the auction, an Urs Fischer painting for 2.5 million euros (around $2,916,375).

DiCaprio took to the stage with Winslet during the auction and when the “Titanic” theme song “My Heart Will Go On” came on, he joked, “We are about to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Titanic,’ but please don’t play that music anymore.” He also spoke about the work needed to save the planet, noting that a chunk of ice twice the size of Luxembourg was breaking off Antarctica.

DiCaprio also posed with Winslet and Zane, who posted on Instagram, “Gang’s back together. Now we’re saving icebergs. Go figure . . .”

Madonna and Lenny Kravitz later performed for guests, many of whom were staying on superyachts and popping Champagne nonstop, including Sean Penn, Gerard Butler, Heidi Klum, Paris Hilton, and models Doutzen Kroes, Taylor Hill and Jessica Hart.
