General hoping to calm WH chaos

President Trump hopes a blunt, tough-talking general will bring order to a White House that has been bleeding employees, leaking information and seething with infighting almost since the day he moved in.

During a 45-year military career, new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly gained a reputation as a calm, acerbic commander who got things done while speaking his mind.

“He knows how to do this, with common sense and good leadership,” a Kelly pal told The Washington Post. “He won’t suffer idiots and fools.”

Kelly may also help Trump work with Democrats, who respect the general.

“The kind of discipline that he is going to bring is important. I hope that we’re at a turning point now,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) told CNN after Kelly’s appointment Friday.

While he led the Southern Command — which oversees US military operations in Central and South America and the Caribbean — Kelly was not afraid to speak against Obama-administration policies, particularly the bid to close the Guantanamo Bay terrorist-detention facility.

Kelly’s views also mesh with Trump’s desire for a border wall with Mexico and stronger immigration controls. He pressed for such policies while he was in the military and as the president’s Homeland Security secretary.
