Son of Sam is back (on TV)

- Cindy Adams

IT was 1976. The Son of Sam case. Sicko David Berkowitz’s yearlong random killing spree. Its 40th anniversary — “Son of Sam: The Hunt for a Killer” — gets reprised Saturday. Two hours, 9 to 11 p.m. Investigation Discovery’s president Henry Schleiff arranged for me to speak to one of the survivors. Carl Denaro: “I worked in a brokerage house and was the second victim. Shot Oct. 23 on a nice residential street in a good Queens neighborhood. I was 20 with long, shoulder-length hair, so cops figured it’s a drug deal.

“I wasn’t drinking. I’d had a beer. We’d left a bar andnd mymy girl-girlfriend Rosemary, 18, waswas driv-driving. Suddenly the windowdow burst.burst. Glass shards everywhere.where. We didn’t know what happened. [Rosemary wan’t hit.] I was in a state of shock butt said, ‘Start the car. We gottatta get out of here.’

“No idea what hap-happened. Back in the barbar they said, ‘You don’t lookook good.’ I didn’t realize I had a head wound. My hair was bloodied. Shirt, hirt, bloodied.

“They took me to Flushing Hospital to pick the bullet and bone frag-ragments out of my headead and put in a metal plate. There three weeks, I was homebound eight months.nths.

“My memory’s still a lit-little sketchy, but this waswas the beginning of the end for me. It’s like nobody’sdy’s safe anymore. I’m no lon-longer constantly scared,, but I do jump a little if a car backfires.

“Berkowitz was in a Ford Galaxy. Nobody else came forward, and the NYPD sticks to the one lone gunman theory, but I always felt other shooters were at large. “Police latelater speculated that with my hair, the shooter, whom we never saw, mistook me for a girl. And Rosemary’s father, a 20-year NYPD detective, caused an intense investigation. “I tried to interview Berkowitz 15 years ago. Do a Q&A in prison, where he’s doing life. But it never happened.” Berkowitz is sending word he’s now remorseful. “YYeah? Maybe he believes it. I don’t.”

Scaramucci is disgusting. An affront. The man’s mouth and behind work together.

His f irst wife didn’t want him, his second wife didn’t want him.

Now his country doesn’t want him.

Returning to his sty. May he and his third wife Miss Piggy grunt happily ever after.
