Floyd loss could add dough

-

FLOYD Mayweather could earn more than $200 million from his fight against Conor McGregor on Saturday — but some of his hangers-on secretly hope he loses, a source says.

“Some people around him are hoping Floyd puts on a good fight, but that he goes down,” a marketing pro headed to Las Vegas told us. “If McGregor loses, no one wants to see Floyd kick his ass again. If Floyd wins, there may not be a second fight to get another $200 million. If he loses, he’s guaranteed another fight, another payday.”

Mayweather has said Saturday’s fight will be his last. But the source added that some in Mayweather’s camp — who get a windfall whenever Mayweather fights — see a silver lining in the un- expected case of a loss: a rematch.

A source close to the undefeated boxing champ, who’s favored to pummel McGregor, said that the only people in Mayweather’s orbit who would wish such a thing are “sponges.”

“Floyd would rather die than lose,” said the insider. And as far as anyone around him, “nobody in his inner circle would even suggest that! Maybe some people who sponge off him and try to send him deals.”

Meanwhile, Mayweather’s reportedly poised to rake in $25 million from branding deals before he even sets foot in the ring, with sponsors adding their logos to trunks and other accoutrements. One branding guru wasapproacheddays before the fight by a party saying they were looking for Mayweather’s team to find a sponsor to add a logo for $700,000 to an elaborate leather jacket with a hood shaped like a shark’s head with teeth that Mayweather will weartothering for uptothree minutes.

But a source close to Mayweather told us, “It’s totally not true. He would never wear that. Everybody’s got a gimmick as it gets closer to the fight . . . People take the opportunity, but Floyd doesn’t work like that. He’s smart about making money. He doesn’t need to do that.” Mayweather’s robe and trunks are being made by designer Philipp Plein, who’s fitting them for the champ on Friday at his store. But as part of the deal, Mayweather can still add logos and wear other gear.
