Floyd fans flames of IV cheating conspiracy

Floyd Mayweather is indeed hanging out at his strip club every day leading up to his fight with Conor McGregor. He also is questioning the legality of how McGregor is spending his time preparing for the bout.

Mayweather and McGregor will square off Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Early Thursday morning, during an interview with MMAFighting.com, Mayweather laid out claims of McGregor’s cheating, though he tried not to sound like the accuser.

“From what I was told, I’ve been doing my homework, and I’ve been hearing a lot about he’s been getting IV bags,” Mayweather said. “I don’t know if it’s true. I’m just saying rumors. I heard he got, like, seven IV bags, and with the Nevada commission, that’s illegal. That’s what I was told. I don’t know if it’s true.”

When pushed on the validity of his source, he responded: “A strong source, yes.”

Mayweather also used an IV bag before a previous fight because he was dehydrated. Saying McGregor is going to extreme measures with IV bags is connected to Mayweather’s other claim from the same interview: The MMA star is struggling to make weight.

Neither fighter can weigh more than 154 pounds for the bout.

“He better be trying to get his weight down. My weight is down,” Mayweather said. “I know he’s been drinking like a gallon of water, a lot of water, because I know he’s over right now.”

Mayweather made it clear he has no concerns about his own weight.

“I weigh like [153, 152]. I ain’t worried about that,” he said. “I could eat a Big Mac, eat a Whopper, something like that. I might eat some pizza.”

That level of nonchalance is on message for Mayweather before this much-hyped match. Mayweather’s father said Wednesday he could knock out McGregor after his son is done with him. While Mayweather Jr. said he still thinks McGregor is a great fighter, he also is making sure everyone knows he is hanging out at a strip club every night before the fight.
