Nets, Zeller agree to two-year deal

The Nets — in desperate need of frontcourt help — agreed to a contract Monday with unrestricted freeagent big man Tyler Zeller.

The deal was f irst reported by ESPN and confirmed by The Post.

It’s a two-year deal with the second year non-guaranteed, and — with the Nets having used most of their cap space to take on salary dumps — is expected to be at the veteran’s minimum or not much more.

The 7-foot, 253-pound Zeller has career averages of seven points and 4.4 rebounds in five seasons spent with the Cavaliers and Celtics. Not overwhelming by any stretch, but considering declining Timofey Mozgov and spindly rookie Jarrett Allen are the only Nets over 6-foot-8, Zeller will add muchneeded size.

The Nets had worked out Zeller and Jared Sullinger, also a former Celtic, re- cently, and may have worked out others as well. While Sullinger is more of a stretch-four by trade, his weight issues and conditioning questions may have been a concern.

The 27-year-old Zeller is more of an old-school big man, and a serviceable defender. His best season came two years ago in Boston when he averaged 10.2 points and 5.7 boards, playing every game and starting 59 of them.

Zeller suffered through illness last season, hospitalized on New Year’s Day with sinus issues. Dizzy and disoriented, he was either inactive, didn’t dress or didn’t play for 12 straight games. He was ill again in March. With Zeller making $8 million and the Celtics pursuing free agent Gordon Hayward this summer, they let him go.

Nets general manager Sean Marks patiently waited to scoop him up.
