Carlina sails to victory

-

Carlina Rivera won the Democratic primary for a Lower East Side City Council seat in a landslide — despite questions raised about her living in federally subsidized housing for lower-income New Yorkers.

Rivera, a former aide to term-limited Councilwoman Rosie Mendez, captured 61 percent of the vote against five other candidates, with 100 percent of precincts reporting.

Ronnie Cho, who falsely claimed the political backing of Yankee legend Derek Jeter, garnered 8.5 percent.

The Post reported Monday that Rivera had online photos scrubbed ahead of Tuesday’s primary showing her husband, Community Board 3 Chairman James Rogers, sailing on the yacht of his dad, William Rogers.

The story also revealed that James Rogers owns an apartment on Grand Street on the Lower East Side.

Since getting married in 2015, the couple has lived in the same federally subsidized apartment that Rivera grew up in on nearby Stanton Street.

A two-person household must make less than $61,050 to qualify for Section 8 housing. In other council races:

Chinatown incumbent Margaret Chin won in a squeaker over chief challenger Christopher Marte. She led by only 200 votes.

Bronx state Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. defeated his main rival, Amanda Farias, by a twoto-one margin in a five-person race. Diaz, a pentecostal minister, is going to be a thorn in the side of progressives. He supports charter schools and voted against gay marriage.
