Protester gives ‘Bull’ the blues
The War on Statues came to Wall Street Thursday as the “Charging Bull” was splashed in blue to protest the US pulling out of the Paris climate accord.
Courtney Frances Fallon — who also draped a blue sash on the neighboring “Fearless Girl” statue — was caught on video pouring a blue powdery substance over the bull’s head sometime before dawn.
The girl’s sash bore the words, “Draw the Blue Line,” the name of a campaign organized by Fallon, 33, of Brooklyn, to protest President Trump’s with- drawal from the accord.
“The message is that we need to collectively act to stem climate change,” she told The Post. “We need to stop with climatechange denial, and the United States needs to reassert its commitment to the Paris Agreement.”
The Greenpoint woman titled the splashing of the bull “Bulls- -t.” The adorning of “Fearless Girl” was called “Suffragette Sash.”
She said she uses temporary items, like painters tape, spray chalk and corn oil, for her projects.
“There’s a big difference between vandalism and street art,” she said.
The Draw the Blue Line campaign urges people to draw horizontal blue lines in the city to raise climatechange awareness during the UN General Assembly session this week and next.
Fallon has not been criminally charged. Both statues were cleaned up before the morning rush.
Reaction to the protest was mixed.
“I would say it’s brave,” said Davon Titus, 27, who works at the Planet Fitness gym across the street. “It’s a bold statement to get the message out because it’s a very known landmark.”
Security guard Farhad Barekzei, 53, disagreed.
“If you want to protest, come protest, don’t destroy the thing,” he said.
