and day. Another week made a big difference. … I’m a lot more comfortable with what I’m doing out there with my assignment.”

The reality still is strange, though. One day after being cut by the Giants, Tye was claimed by the Jets.

Over the past two seasons, Tye had appeared in 29 games with the Giants, making a total of 90 catches for 859 yards and four touchdowns. Even after Evan Engram was drafted by the Giants in the first round and Rhett Ellison was signed as a free agent, Tye believed he would be back with the team.

“I was shocked at first,” Tye said. “It was a crazy 24 hours. Getting a lot of calls, and texts. … It’s just staying positive, knowing that something’s gonna happen and being ready for it. First call, second call, and go in and help out whatever team it is.

“It’s definitely different and weird, especially going across the way from the Giants to the Jets.”

Despite the differences between the two teams, Tye’s transition was simplified by their most important shared feature.

By remaining in New Jersey, Tye didn’t have to uproot his 7-yearold daughter and his 2-year-old son. All that changed was an extra 20 minutes added to his commute — and a new opportunity.

“That’s huge, not having to move the family and not having to move my stuff,” Tye said. “I can just be here and not worry too much about my family and what else is going on.”
