Clemson thumps Jackson and Cards
Clemson held 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson in check for most of the game, quarterback counterpart Kelly Bryant accounted for three touchdowns, and the No. 3 Tigers routed No. 14 Louisville 47-21 on Saturday night in Louisville, Ky.
Jackson passed for 317 yards and three TDs for the Cardinals (2-1, 1-1 ACC), but most of that came with things already in hand for Clemson (3-0, 1-0 ACC). The Tigers’ Dorian O’Donnell returned an interception 44 yards for a TD and a 26-7 thirdquarter lead, and they sacked Jackson four times.
Alabama 41, Colorado St. 23
In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Jalen Hurts passed for 248 yards and two long touchdowns and rushed for 103 yards and No. 1 Alabama (3-0) held off a comeback by Colorado State (2-2).
Oklahoma 56, Tulane 14
In Norman, Okla., Baker Mayfield passed for 331 yards and four touchdowns, and No. 2 Oklahoma (3-0) followed its impressive victory at Ohio State with a rout of Tulane (1-2). Oklahoma receiver CeeDee Lamb caught four passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns before he was ejected for targeting on a block in the second quarter.
Michigan 29, Air Force 13
In Ann Arbor, Mich., Donovan Peoples-Jones returned a punt 79 yards for a score and Quinn Nordin tied a school record with five field goals, helping No. 7 Michigan (3-0) overcome its offensive struggles and defeat Air Force (1-1).
Ohio St. 38, Army 7
In Columbus, Ohio, freshman J.K. Dobbins ran for 172 yards and a pair of touchdowns as No. 8 Ohio State (2-1) rebounded from a deflating loss to rout Army (2-1).
Oklahoma St. 59, Pittsburgh 21
In Pittsburgh, Mason Rudolph threw for 497 yards and five touchdowns, all in the first half, and ninthranked Oklahoma State (3-0) drilled the Panthers (1-2). Jalen McCleskey caught seven passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns for the Cowboys.
Mississippi St. 37, LSU 7
In Starkville, Miss., Nick Fitzgerald threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores to help Mississippi State (3-0, 1-0 SEC) rout No. 12 LSU (2-1, 0-1), which had 112 yards in penalties, with two TDs negated.
Auburn 24, Mercer 10
In Auburn, Ala., Kamryn Pettway ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns as the No. 15 Tigers (2-1) overcame five turnovers to hold off FCS school Mercer (1-2) in another troubling offensive performance after being held without a touchdown in a 14-6 loss at No. 3 Clemson last week.
Notre Dame 49, B.C. 20
In Boston, Brandon Wimbush ran for four touchdowns and 207 yards, a record for a Notre Dame quarterback, and Josh Adams had 229 rushing yards to help the Fighting Irish (2-1) respond to their fall from the rankings with the win over Boston College (1-2).
